Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet community which is situated on the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. It is the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a huge section that extends from Lachine until the west. Many times, it is credited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was not long. Brugel was raised in Courtice in the town of Oshawa. Early ambitions were to be an actor, however she literally outgrew the dancing partners. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that she was 6 foot 1 inch tall. Once I outgrew male partners I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting, which is what Brugel did. An instructor in drama at her high school helped push Brugel in the direction she was looking for. It was suggested that she try out for roles in the school's production. She auditioned and ended up playing the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned A Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, she's appeared participating in numerous productions on large screens as well as smaller ones. She received the greatest attention when she was cast in her role as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian cast member on the show in the season 1 of the show and was rarely seen.
